Director of Coastal Dance of Dartmouth, N.S. since
1994, Micaela began training under the direction of Nora Oakey, ARAD, T.Dip.
and was a founding member of Halifax
Dance YoCo.She continued her professional
training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Banff Centre for the Arts and
graduated from École Supérieure de Danse du Québec. She has also studied in
Germany, Toronto, Pennsylvania, and New York. She holds her Royal Academy of
Dance Advanced 2 as well as her Russian Advanced certificate. She is an elected
Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance. Micaela has been a recipient of several Nova
Scotia Talent Trust Awards, The Banff Centre for the Arts Scholarship, the
MT&T New Choreographers award and Canada Council Emerging Artist award as well
as Nova Scotia Arts Council grants.
Micaela has performed professionally with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens, Les Jeune Ballets de Quebec and at the Toronto Fringe Festival of Independent Artists (Ffida), Halifax Live Art & the Atlantic Fringe Festival.
Dancers from Coastal Dance have studied world wide attending some of the most prestigious schools and professional companies in the world such as The Juilliard School, Boston Ballet, The National Ballet school of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Toronto Dance Theatre and Netherlands Dance Theatre II.
Coastal Dance Theatre
Coastal Dance Theatre Society was formed to highlight the Advanced Pre-Professional students of Coastal Dance. CDT performs a winter season “CONCERTS FOR CHILDREN” series, designed to introduce school children to dance as an art form through full length productions such as Cinderella, The Snow Queen, A Christmas Carol ,Alice in Winterland & The Nutcracker. CDT presents an IN CONCERT series of mixed repertoire where the dancers and audiences are treated to local & international choreographic talent with both Classical & Contemporary dance.
CDT has been delighted to offer other local young performance groups such as The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts, Halifax Dance Young Company and Maritime Dance Performance Group the opportunity to perform with Coastal Dance Theatre in their “In Concert series”, creating a wonderful sense of community.
